Moving is a tough row to hoe with little money, but you can manage to have it happened. Whether you move house or a new city, it can be exciting, but most of you find yourself broke. If you think practically, you will not move when you have very little money, but you may need to do so when you are leaving your town after graduation, about to deal with an unexpected event of life such as divorce or illness of loved ones or when you want to start fresh.
If you are moving to a new city or town, you need to figure out the cost of living. It is likely to be higher if you intend to move to a big city. Rent, transport and utility expenses will be higher. Further, you will need to consider employment opportunities. Of course, you need money to earn your livelihood. Here are some ways you can move even if you do not have enough money.
Whittle down the cost
The moving cost can be a bit expensive especially when you are running out of money. In fact, some people take out loans to fund their expenses, but this can be an expensive option. Instead of rushing into taking out loans, you should figure out ways to cut back on the moving cost. You do not need to pay for moving boxes. Get them free by asking friends, family, and stores. Try to convince the store to provide you with boxes free of cost.
If you do not have enough moving boxes, you should use plastic bags, garbage packs, rucksacks that you usually own. You can get these items from your family and friends too easily. Try to avoid taking help of professional packers. Get some time and do it yourself. Professional packing fees are high and this is not something you cannot do it without the help of professionals. You can take help of your friend in packing your luggage.
Do not rent a moving truck. Using your own car will help you save a lot of pennies. However, it may require multiple trips in case you have a small car. Ask your friend if they can arrange their car. Try to pay the fuel cost to them. Remember that this option is suitable if you are moving home in the same town or city. If you are moving to a new city, you need to rent a truck so that you could carry your luggage in just one trip. You can take out loans for bad credit or no guarantor loans if you have cash shortfalls.
If you think that you will have to take out a loan, make sure that you have the repayment plan. Try to cut down on your regular expenses such as food, clothing, and entertainment. The more money you save, the better it is. Do not spend on unwanted things. Try to avoid late payments as they attract penalties. Limit the use of your credit card and pay off the debt within the grace period.
Try to earn extra money
Even though you have been managing with more than half of your own resources, moving cannot happen successfully without enough money. If you are moving home within the same city and you are not going to change your job, you can ask your employer to advance you a salary. If you are moving to a new city, you should get a part-time job. Even if you do not get a job in your field, never hesitate to grab a side gig out of your field such as writing, designing, etc. In fact, some people try to make money through babysitting, cleaning, walking a dog and the like. Try to sell unwanted things that you do not need to carry with you. Sell down-at-heel clothes and worn-out furniture online and earn a few pennies.
What to do after you move successfully?
Once you have moved your house or city, create a budget so that you can survive for a couple of months with little income. Apply for jobs with multiple companies. Unless you land a new job, you will have to rely on your savings for your regular expenses.
